Dempster, Cubs Take Series from Padres
Ryan Dempster struck out a career-high 12 Thursday and the Cubs won three of four from the Padres 4-0. Dempster came through at the plate with the RBI-single in the fifth inning that scored the game winning run. Meanwhile, in his debut, Jim Edmonds went 1-for-4 in the win. Kerry Wood got his eighth save of the season, striking out both batters he faced in the ninth to preserve it for Dempster.
