Mike Gaffigan allowed four hits, walked one and struck out seven in five innings for the win. Bob Newman drove in two runs and Eric Duncan scored two runs for Sandburg (21-4).
Schaumburg 12, Palatine 1 (6) Dave Compitello was 2-for-5 with three RBIs for the Saxons (18-6). Winning pitcher George Kalousek (6-2) threw a two-hitter, striking out five. Kalousek was also 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Schaumburg clinched the Mid-Suburban West title.
